Description
The Woolston memorial is a chest tomb located approximately 18 meters southeast of the chancel of the Church of St. Mary. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of limestone marlstone and possibly Coade stone. The tomb is rectangular and stands on a marlstone plinth that once supported railings. It features a moulded base and cover, with raised inscription panels on all sides. Atop the cover, flanked by flat scrolls, is a square pedestal that supports a draped vase with a flaming finial. The inscriptions commemorate various members of the Woolston family, the earliest of whom, Thomas, died in 1808.
