Description

Ivy Cottage and the cottage abutting on the right are a row of three cottages that have been converted into two dwellings. They date from the late 17th century and have undergone some alterations. The buildings are constructed from coursed ironstone rubble, with part of the left side featuring ironstone ashlar. They have a steeply pitched thatched roof, with renewed brick ridge and end stacks set on stone bases. The original layout consists of two single-unit plans and one two-unit plan, all arranged over a single storey plus an attic, with a total of six windows across the front.

Ivy Cottage has two entrances that feature plank doors with moulded wood surrounds. The left entrance has a stone flat arch, while the right has a gabled wooden hood. On the right side, there is a three-light stone mullioned window with a flat splay section and a moulded stone hood mould. To the left, there is a three-light metal casement window in a wood frame and a 20th-century metal casement window, both beneath stone flat arches. The attic contains two 20th-century windows with renewed wood lintels and two renewed half-dormers with wood lintels.

The cottage on the right has an entrance flanked by a wood mullioned window and a three-light metal casement window in a wood frame. It features a painted, chamfered wood lintel on the right and a refaced wood lintel on the left. The attic has two half-dormers, one with a renewed two-light casement on the left and a three-light metal casement on the right, both in wood frames with wood lintels. Above the entrance, there is a tie-bar, and some wrought-iron casement fasteners are present. The building has ironstone quoins and a stone-coped gable on the left, which retains a remnant of a stone finial at the apex of the roof.

Inside Ivy Cottage, there are chamfered beams and an inglenook fireplace that features a fire window to the exterior.
