Description
This section of railings, dating from the late 17th century, is located next to the village hall in Lamberhurst. It was re-set here in the late 20th century. The railings are made of cast iron and sit on a stone base within red brick walling. According to a nearby plaque, these railings were cast in Lamberhurst based on designs by Sir Christopher Wren. They originally formed part of the railed yard around St. Paul's Cathedral in London before being donated to Lamberhurst by the Dean and Chapter of St. Paul's. The panel features a principal upright shaped like a turned baluster with a baluster finial and a scrolled bracing piece. It is flanked on either side by two baluster-type uprights with spear heads, along with intermediate spear heads on both the rail and the base.
