Description
The Nesbitt Memorial, dated 1807, is located approximately 16 meters northeast of the vestry of the Church of St Mary the Virgin in Speldhurst. This memorial commemorates William Andrew Nesbitt and is signed by Coade. It is made of coadestone on brick and features a relatively large rectangular pedestal with a cornice decorated with bay leaf ornamentation. Each end of the pedestal is adorned with swags of material, while the sides have rectangular panels flanked by inverted torches. At the top, there is a large lamp with a fluted base from which flames rise. The memorial stands on a one-step plinth that includes sockets from area railings. The south side is inscribed in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, recording the deaths of William Nesbitt in 1807 and his daughter Marianne in 1806.
