Description
Old Swan House is a house that was once an inn. It is a former late Medieval open hall house with a late 16th century parlour cross wing. The service end was replaced in the 18th century when the building was refronted, and it features an Edwardian kitchen extension and 20th century windows. The building is timber-framed, with the front covered in weatherboarding and the right side clad in tile. It has a steeply pitched tiled roof that is hipped with a gablet on the left and gabled on the right, featuring an off-central panelled late 16th century brick chimneystack. The house has two storeys and attics, with three windows, two 19th century gabled dormers, and three 20th century tripartite casements. The doorcase is now located on the side elevation, and the front has a wooden sundial. Inside, there are remains of a dais beam and two inglenook fireplaces, one of which includes a salt niche. The parlour contains two 18th century china cupboards with serpentine shelves and features jowled posts. The first floor includes a main bedroom with a roll-moulded ceiling and shutter grooves. The cellar has wine bins that date back to the building's time as an inn.
