Description
Staplehurst Lodge is a lodge that was formerly associated with Hempstead House and is now part of Benenden School. It was built around 1868 by George Devey in the Vernacular Revival style. The structure is made of brick with stone dressings and features timber-framed gables with plastered infill. The roof is tiled and includes one clustered brick chimney stack and an external brick chimney stack on a stone base on the right side.
The front elevation showcases a ground floor of red brick with a projecting timber-framed gable above, which is supported by elaborate brackets. This gable contains a 4-light mullion window, while below it is a 6-light bay window. The left side elevation features a large projecting timber-framed gable with eclectic framing and a 4-light mullioned and transomed window that supports a porch on six timber piers. The right side elevation is adorned with a tile-hung gable that has bands of fishscale tiles.
