Description
Weaver's Den is a house that dates back to the 16th century or earlier. It features a timber frame that is exposed, with plaster infill, and has weather boarding on the rear and return elevations, along with a red and blue brick outshot. The roof is plain tiled. The building has a lobby entry plan typical of hall houses and consists of five framed bays, with a later addition on the left end.
The house stands two storeys high and showcases large panel framing with irregular tension and arched bracing. There is a small section of studding at the upper end on the right. The roof is half-hipped to the right, with moulded and clustered stacks positioned to the right, and a projecting outshot attached at the left end.
On each floor, there are five wooden and metal casement windows, along with boarded doors located to the left, centre right, and at the end right. A blocked door frame is found to the right in front of the stack, and there is a small section of moulding over the doorway at centre right, which may have been moved. At the rear, there is a catslide outshot. Historical records suggest that this building was once a cloth hall, and Igglesden noted soot blackened roof timbers and an 'elegantly carved' window frame, which is now decayed.
