Description

Old Place is an early 19th-century house. Cellars on the site incorporate the remains of a 17th-century or earlier building. The visible house is a red brick structure with grey brick headers arranged in a diaper pattern, topped with a hipped tiled roof and two brick stacks. It has two storeys and three windows facing the entrance front, and two storeys with four windows facing the garden front, including a mid-19th century one-bay extension on the right. A modillion eaves cornice runs around the building.

The entrance front has a 12-pane sash window on the left, a central 24-pane tripartite window, and a 20-pane tripartite window on the right. The ground floor windows have cambered heads and flat hoods supported by brackets. The entrance is through a four-panelled door. On the garden front, a central 12-pane sash window is flanked by 24-pane tripartite windows, and a matching window is in the left-side extension. The ground floor garden front windows also feature cambered heads. A doorcase with a flat hood on brackets and pilasters is also present on the garden front.

The sandstone cellars, featuring brick arches and roll-moulded beams, appear to be the ground floor of the earlier house and have been later adapted into wine cellars.
