Description
Crowhurst is a house that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with alterations made in the mid-18th century and late 20th century. It features a timber frame set on a base of red brick and sandstone, with some parts exposed and plaster infill. The ground floor is clad with red brick, and the roof is covered with plain tiles. The house has a hall house origin with three and a half framed bays, standing two storeys high with an attic on a plinth. The first floor has an arched braced panelled frame, and the roof is hipped with a gablet to the right and a half-hipped gablet to the left, featuring a cluster of stacks at the centre left and two hipped dormers.
There are three 20th-century two-light wooden casements on each floor, with the one on the right of the ground floor located in a catslide outshot. Evidence of mullioned windows can be seen on the upper left. A large 20th-century gabled porch is located at the centre, which has a rib and stud door with sidelights, and a re-set tile above the door inscribed with "1764 R CRAMP." The left return displays 17th-century style framing, particularly on the rebuilt half-hip end, which rests on a base of large sandstone blocks. Additionally, there is a single-storey hipped extension at the rear, added in the late 20th century.
