Description
The farmhouse at Hook Green, dating from the 15th century with substantial rebuilding in the early 17th century, was further altered and extended in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is timber-framed and shows a mix of materials: painted brick on the ground floor, exposed timber framing on the first floor with plaster infill, tile hanging to the return and rear elevations, and a plain tiled roof. Originally a hall house, it is two storeys and has a garret, standing on a plinth with a half-hipped roof featuring gablets and a cluster of chimneys in the centre left. The front has two small wooden casement windows on each floor, and a central half-glazed door protected by a gabled hood supported by brackets. A single-storey extension is situated on the left, and a catslide extension projects from the rear. The interior retains evidence of its hall house origins, including smoke-blackened roof timbers, and the service wing was rebuilt in the 17th century. It also includes inglenook fireplaces.
