Description
Tanyard House is an 18th-century house located on the south side of Goudhurst Road in Horsmonden. The building features a red brick ground floor and a tile-hung first floor, topped with a plain tiled roof. It consists of two parallel ranges that were built as a single structure, standing two storeys high with a basement and an attic on a plinth. The first floor has a brick cogged string course, and the gambrel roof is adorned with a moulded wooden modillion eaves cornice, along with stacks at both ends and two flat-roofed dormers.
The house has a regular arrangement of windows, including three glazing bar sashes on the first floor and two tripartite glazing bar sashes on the ground floor. The central entrance door is made up of six panels and features a traceried rectangular fanlight, framed by a doorcase with pilasters and a cornice. There is a basement opening to the right. The rear range mirrors the detailing of the front and includes a boarded door in a 20th-century lean-to extension. Inside, there are reported marble fireplaces, folding window shutters, and an earlier framed rear section that contains a kitchen inglenook.
