Description
Birch Cottage is a house dating to the 17th century, with a possible earlier rear wing. The construction is timber framed, with the first floor having exposed timber and plaster infill. The ground floor is red brick with some sandstone used as well. It has a plain tiled roof. The house follows a lobby entry plan with one storey and an attic, standing on a plinth. The half-hipped roof is punctuated by three gabled dormers and a stack centrally located to the left. The hip end of the rear wing projects outwards towards the centre right. There are three windows with two and three lights each on the ground floor, and a boarded door located centrally to the left, protected by a raking porch with prominent vertical ornamental iron straps. A gabled wing faced with tile hanging extends to the rear right.
