Description
There are three chest tombs located about 2 metres east of the Church of St Lawrence. The northernmost tomb dates from the early 18th century and is partially sunk into the ground, with only the reverse-ogee moulded top slab visible. The southernmost tomb, also from the early 18th century, features a stepped base, an ogee moulded plinth, raised and fielded side panels, corner piers, and a top slab made of basalt or slate with moulding. The central chest tomb is dedicated to John Baker and dates from the mid-18th century. It has a platform and an enriched chest with a moulded base, raised and fielded panels, urn-shaped corner piers, a gadrooned design, an egg and tongue cornice, and a moulded top slab that includes an inscribed arms cartouche.
