Description
This is a row of three adjacent headstones, located approximately 20 meters northeast of the chancel of the Church of St Mary the Virgin. These headstones date from the 18th century and commemorate members of the May family. Each headstone is an upright sandstone slab, standing between 400 and 500 millimeters high, with shaped heads. The heads of the two rightmost headstones are adorned with crossed arrows. All three feature fielded panels. The left headstone is inscribed in Roman serif capitals, but the inscription is illegible. The center headstone records the death of Richard May in 1755, while the right headstone notes the death of his wife, Sarah, in 1761.
