Description

Vineen headstone, dated 1784, is located approximately 7 metres southeast of the chancel of the Church of St Thomas a Becket. This headstone is an upright sandstone slab that stands about 1.1 metres high. The top of the stone features a double-shaped head carved with winged cherub heads in profile, facing each other. The inscription starts in Gothic lettering but most of it is in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering. It is divided into two columns above a prayer and commemorates the deaths of Ambrose Vineen in 1784 and his wife, Prence?, in 1774.
