Description

This is a headstone located about 13 meters south of the south aisle of the Church of All Saints in Brenchley. It dates from the mid-18th century and is made of Portland stone. The headstone features a bi-furcated rounded head with a section of relief carving above the inscription. The carving depicts a cherub with hooved hindquarters blowing the trumpet of doom, along with a death's head and a figure of death carrying a scythe and hourglass, flanked by scrolled leaf decorations. The inscription commemorates John Mileiss, who died in 1744, as well as other family members.
