Description

The Everest headstone, dated 1776, is located approximately 9 meters south of the chancel of the Church of St Martin. This headstone commemorates members of the Everest family and is made of upright sandstone, standing about 400 millimeters high. The top of the headstone is shaped and features a carving of four winged cherubs' heads beneath a cloud. The inscription starts in Gothic lettering and continues in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, detailing the deaths of four children: Elizabeth, Peter, Hannah, and William, who passed away in 1775 and 1776.
