Description
Field Green House is a mid to late 18th-century house with some 19th-century alterations. It is constructed of red brick with grey headers and features a hipped old tiled roof with two brick chimneystacks. The house has two storeys, attics, and a basement, with five windows. A stone stringcourse and parapet with stone coping are present, along with a brick bracket cornice that rises within the parapet to create a pediment over the central first-floor window, which is segmental-headed and has a keystone above. The windows are 12-pane sashes with ribbed brick voussoirs. The attic storey has a large brick gable with a pseudo-Venetian window added in the 19th century, replacing the central dormer. There are also two end gabled dormers. The entrance features an open pedimented doorcase with Tuscan half-columns, a shell fanlight, and a six-panelled door, which is approached by side flights of stone steps with a cast iron handrail. The entrance also incorporates a Diocletian window to the basement. This house is noted as the grandest 18th-century house in Sandhurst.
