Description
Two headstones located 10 and 12 metres east of the Church of St Lawrence are notable historical markers. The first headstone commemorates Thomas Mercer, who died in 1753. It stands about 3½ feet high and has been repaired with an iron strap. This headstone features a fine inscription and has a doubled round-headed top. The left panel displays a skull, while the right panel shows crossed bones, both linked by a foliate scroll. The second headstone, situated to the east, is approximately 2½ feet high and dates from the mid-18th century. Its inscription is now illegible, but it has scrolled shoulders leading to a segmental cornice, with an incised lozenge-decorated background and a well-executed swagged arms cartouche.
