Description
Beals Cottages is a pair of cottages, likely from the 18th century or earlier. The ground floor is built of Flemish bond brick, while the first floor is weatherboarded, topped with a peg-tile roof and featuring brick stacks.
The cottages are double fronted and may have been an extension and conversion of an earlier house. They face south and are slightly set back from and elevated above the road. The left cottage has a lobby entrance, while the right cottage has an entrance positioned slightly to the right of the axial stack.
The cottages are two storeys tall with a slightly asymmetrical four-window front. The roof is hipped at the ends and has two axial stacks with low brick shafts and corbelled cornices. Both cottages feature 19th-century plank front doors and porch hoods from the 18th or early 19th century, supported by moulded brackets. The ground and first floor have casement windows, with the ground floor windows likely in 18th or early 19th-century embrasures that include brick voussoirs. Most of the glazing is from the 20th century, including metal-framed windows.
The interior was not accessible during the survey in 1989, but it may have features of interest.
