Description

House. Built in the late 17th or early 18th century, with a probable late 18th or early 19th century addition at the right end, and 20th-century additions to the rear. The house is framed construction, with a brick ground floor and tile hanging above. It has a peg-tile roof and a brick stack.

Originally facing south and slightly set back from the road, the house was initially comprised of two rooms. A room to the right (east) had a rear lateral stack for heating, while the room to the left (west) was unheated. The house was later extended with a one-room addition to the right and a one-room rear wing at right angles. A back-to-back fireplace was incorporated into the former rear lateral stack, and further 20th-century additions were made to the rear.

The front has an asymmetrical three-window facade, with a 19th-century gabled porch to the right of centre, containing a 19th-century plank door. There are three first-floor and three ground-floor windows, each with 19th-century two-light casements containing 12 panes per light.

The interior features exposed carpentry, including scroll-stopped main beams. Wall framing survives on the rear wall, to ground floor level, with wall posts featuring formed jowls. The roof over the two left (west) rooms is of clasped purlin construction, showing evidence of extensive repair and reused timbers. The roof over the right (east) end has later timbers.
