Description

Town Farm Dairy consists of two cottages and an outbuilding, likely dating from the 18th or 19th century. The cottages were undergoing renovation in 1989. The ground floors of the cottages are brick, with the first floors weatherboarded. They have peg-tile roofs and brick stacks. The outbuilding has a timber frame, weatherboarded cladding on brick footings.

The buildings occupy a roadside site. The outbuilding faces north and runs east-west, parallel to the road. The cottages join the outbuilding on the east side, at a right angle, and project forward to the north. The cottages are two-cell structures; the eastern cottage has a stack positioned at the junction with the western cottage, while the western cottage has an axial stack. The outbuilding includes a loft.

The front of the building, as viewed from the road, presents an asymmetrical arrangement of windows: one window for each cottage and three for the barn. The cottages on the left have hipped roofs, while the barn has a gable-ended roof. The left-hand cottage has two 20th-century small-pane casement windows and a door at the north end, on the left. The right-hand cottage has a three-light window, probably dating from the 20th century. The outbuilding has a sliding door slightly left of centre, with a loft door above. It also has two first-floor and two ground-floor windows, probably dating from the 19th century, with glazing bars flanking these openings, along with a smaller three-light fixed window to the right. The right end of the outbuilding has a door on the ground floor and a loft door above.

The interiors of the cottages are plain. The interior of the outbuilding was not inspected.

The buildings form an attractive, irregular group along the roadside in the hamlet of Market Heath.
