Description

The Church of St Peter and St Paul is a Grade I listed building dating from around 1200. It is constructed of flint with tufa dressings and has plain tiled roofs. The church features a south-west tower, a narrow nave, and an unusually long chancel. It includes early 16th-century windows and flat-headed two-light belfry openings. There is a pointed arched doorway on the south side of the tower, with a 13th-century doorway behind it, which is concealed by the tower's addition. The original north and south windows are present in the chancel.

Inside, the church has a collar-rafter roof and a piscina that is built in one piece with a 14th-century window. The reredos is made of wood and dates from the early 18th century, featuring two cartouches carved with reliefs of the Circumcision and the Flight into Egypt, although it was not originally made for the church. The altar rails, also of wood and from the early 18th century, have twisted balusters, enriched newels, and leaf bosses, and were not made for the church either. The pulpit, created in 1775 by Henry Keene, was originally for Westminster Abbey, where it stood until 1824. It features a palm tree carrying a sounding board, with decoration that combines Gothic and classical styles, including oval wheel motifs on the sides. The reading desk is composed of Jacobean remnants. The stained glass includes a west window from 1885 by Ward and Hughes and a window by Gibbs.
