TQ 66 SW STANSTED VIGO ROAD 2/11 (south side) 1.8.52 Fairseat Manor and garden wall to north

II*

House. Elevation of circa 1700 to C17 re.ar block. Red brick with blue headers and red dressings and pilasters. Concealed slate roof. 2 storeys on brick plinth with platband and tall parapet with band. 2- 2- 2 bay facade, divided by 4 giant pilasters, each surmounted by a plaster wren above the cornice. Glazing bar sashes in flat-arch surrounds, the side dressings carried up as vertical bands of red headers. Small slit glazing bar sash windows either side of door and above on 1st floor. Central panelled door in flat doorcase of fluted Tuscan pilasters, the entablature with ogee ornament and dentilled cornice. C17 brick and tile-hung block to rear, gabled at each end. Interior. 2 c.1700 panelled rooms and panelled hall with 3-flight newel staircase behind on ground-floor. 1 panelled room on 1st floor. Bolection moulding fireplaces in all these rooms. Evidence of timber-framing in rooms on block behind, especially roof joists and wall-plates.
