Description
This is a terrace of three houses, Nos. 35, 36, and 37, dating to circa 1802. They were built as part of James Townley’s initial development of Spencer Square in Ramsgate, and by 1810 were used as officers’ quarters, with the surrounding area serving as Cavalry barracks. The houses are rendered and have a slate roof. They are arranged over three storeys and a basement, with a string course extending to the parapet.
Each house features three canted oriel windows on the second floor. Number 37 has an additional metal casement window to the right of the leftmost oriel. Ground and first floor levels also have canted bays, with a moulded cornice above the ground-floor bay. French doors are present on the first floor, sheltered by tented verandahs supported by simple piers and scrolled brackets. The railed areas have Gothick panelling and simple iron brackets. The main entrance doors are to the right of the bays, comprising six raised and fielded panels, partially glazed, set in fluted and moulded surrounds, with a single step leading up to the door. The railed areas feature urn finials.
