Description
Dent de Lion Gateway is a 15th-century structure located on Dent de Lion Road in Garlinge. This scheduled ancient monument was once owned by Charles James Fox. The gateway features a flat stone carriage arch alongside a pointed arch for pedestrians, both of which are stone faced. The arches are flanked by four square towers, which are constructed alternately with courses of knapped flints and red brick, featuring long and short stone quoins at the base. The towers are topped with battlements, and a few corbels remain. The center is crenellated and includes arrow-slit windows, with each tower containing a newel staircase. The rear of the gateway has an arch made solely of unknapped flintwork, with brick quoins.
