Description
The Westgate and Garlinge War Memorial is a war memorial, likely unveiled in the 1920s, located just outside the Church of St James. It is made of granite and consists of a rough-hewn stone of remembrance divided into two sections. The top section features a cross carved in relief on its front face, and below this is a smoothed panel with the dedication that reads "TO OUR MEN OF THIS PLACE/ WHO FELL IN THE/ GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1919." The second section of stone has a smoothed panel that is incised with the names of the fallen. The memorial stands on a single shallow stone step base within a paved area.
