Description

RAMSGATE VICTORIA PARADE TR 3865 SE (south side) 10/406 Memorial Bust and railings to E.W. Pugin, about 50 metres south of the Granville Hotel GV II Bust of Edward Welby Pugin. 1879 by Owen Hall. Marble Bust of Pugin, in tie and frock coat, glancing to the right and out to sea (his chin damaged). Stepped pink granite pedestal on grey granite base and in octagonal railed area - the rails latticed with ball finialed principals. Inscription on pedestal reads: - Edward Welby Pugin The Gifted And Accomplished son of Augustus Welby Pugin One of England's Greatest Architects Born 11th March 1834 Died 5th June 1875 This Bust is erected by Edmund T. Davis 1879 Signed Owen Hall, London on rear of bust. Davis bought out Pugin in the development scheme of Victoria Parade after Pugin's liquidation in 1873. (Busson, Ramsgate, 107).
