Memorial Bust And Railings To Ew Pugin, About 50 Metres South Of The Granville Hotel

This is a memorial bust and railings dedicated to Edward Welby Pugin, located about 50 metres south of the Granville Hotel in Ramsgate. The bust, created in 1879 by Owen Hall, is made of marble and depicts Pugin in a tie and frock coat, looking to the right and out to sea, although his chin is damaged. It stands on a stepped pink granite pedestal with a grey granite base, enclosed in an octagonal area with railings that feature lattice work and ball finialed principals. The inscription on the pedestal reads: "Edward Welby Pugin The Gifted And Accomplished son of Augustus Welby Pugin One of England's Greatest Architects Born 11th March 1834 Died 5th June 1875 This Bust is erected by Edmund T. Davis 1879." The rear of the bust is signed by Owen Hall, London. Edmund T. Davis commissioned the bust after acquiring Pugin's interests in the development of Victoria Parade following Pugin's liquidation in 1873.
