Description
Built in 1852 as the Faversham National School, this building was designed by R.C. Hussey. It comprises a high gatehouse centrally positioned within a two-storey range, with a single-storey cross wing of the same height extending at either end. The architecture is in the Perpendicular style, constructed from knapped flint with stone dressings. The gatehouse features a moulded four-centred stone arch with a stone vaulted passageway, leading into an irregular quadrangle surrounded by classrooms on all sides. The two-storey range has three bays on either side of the gatehouse, each with two two-light casement windows featuring cusped heads in flat arches. Moulded strings rise to form dripstones over the upper windows, and the building is topped by a crenellated parapet.
