Description
The Omnibus Enquiry Office is an early 19th-century single-storey building located on Court Street. It features an entrance and two windows on the north front, with three window bays on the west front. The building has a slate gabled roof and is constructed of painted brick, with a raised band at the impost level. The north front includes a parapet with a pediment and elliptical heads for the doorway and windows, although the windows have been altered. On the west side, there are three narrow round-headed openings, which consist of two modern windows and one door. The east side facing Middle Row has two round-headed openings, one of which is blocked. Additionally, there is early 19th-century ironwork forming a quadrant in the southwest corner and a similar quadrant in the southeast corner, although the latter is partly demolished. This building stands on the site of the White House, which was visited by Queen Elizabeth I in 1571. The Omnibus Enquiry Office is part of a group that includes Nos 39, 39A, and 40, as well as Nos 41 to 48 (consecutive) and Nos 8 and 10 Market Place.
