Description
29 The Mall is a house that has been converted into offices. The first phase of its construction dates back to before 1840, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. The building is made of red brick with rendered details and has a slate roof. It stands three storeys tall, featuring a string course at the first floor and a heavy moulded cornice at the second floor, topped with a parapet over a hipped roof that has a stack at the rear left.
On the second floor, there are two half-sized glazing bar sash windows set in moulded surrounds. The first floor has two full-sized glazing bar sash windows, also in moulded surrounds, each with bracketed cornices. The ground floor has a canted bay to the right, which includes glazing bar sashes and a cornice. The entrance features a half-glazed and panelled door within a moulded semi-circular headed and keyed surround.
The right return elevation shows some variation in brickwork, indicating that part of the structure may have been rebuilt. This is evident from the single glazing bar sash on the second floor and the glazed doors on the ground floor. This elevation suggests that it is part of a building marked on the 1841 Tithe Map, including the bonding in of a new facade.
