Description

Banks Farm Cottage, originally part of Banks Farmhouse, is a Wealden hall house dating from the 16th century. It has been divided into two separate dwellings. The construction is timber-framed, with exposed close-studding, plaster infill to the left-hand side, brick nogging to the centre, and painted brick infill and tile hanging to the right. The roof is tiled, hipped, and incorporates stacks in the centre and projecting at each end. The house is three and a half bays wide, with jetties on the left and right sides supported by dragon posts and brackets, and a flying wall plate over the central one-and-a-half-bay hall, featuring arched braces. There are wood casements on the first floor, including a central oriel supported by brackets, along with leaded casements to the left and centre, all with a tiled hood. The right-hand end bay contains a boarded door set within a four-centred arched surround. A catslide extension projects from the rear.
