Description

The Old Vicarage is a hall house, later adapted for residential use, dating back to the 15th century. It was extended in 1573 and subsequently re-clad in the 18th century. The building is timber framed, built upon a flint plinth, and faced with painted brick and plaster, with a plain tiled roof. It comprises a hall range and a cross-wing. The main wing is two storeys high with a hipped roof, and a projecting, two-storey hipped wing is located to the right, containing a central chimney stack. The main wing has two wooden casement windows on each floor. To the front, a four-panelled door stands to the right of a sash window with glazing bars, protected by a flat hood. The cross-wing has two wooden casement windows on the first floor and one wooden casement on the ground floor to the right of a boarded door featuring a lion-head knocker set into a deep recess. Internally, there is evidence of the original hall being ceiled, along with the possible presence of jettied end bays. The interior also features hollow chamfered and moulded beams.
