Description
The building is a stable range dating from the 18th century, located about 30 metres southeast of Abbey Farmhouse. It is constructed of red brick with a projecting plinth and features a hybrid Flemish/English bond, with courses of alternating headers and stretchers, as well as occasional stretchers. The roof is made of plain clay tiles, hipped at the right-hand (east) end and gabled at the left (west) end.
The plan is a long rectangular shape, with stables located at the center and right-hand end, and what may have been a cart-shed on the left, possibly accompanied by a harness room at the extreme left (west) end. The exterior is one storey high and has an asymmetrical south front. There are doorways at the center and both ends of the front, with the left and right doorways featuring segmental brick arches, all equipped with boarded divided doors. The front also has three small windows to the center and right, two of which have segmented brick arches. To the left of the front, there is a wide opening fitted with 20th-century sliding doors.
Inside, the stables contain mangers and corn chests, and the roof structure includes straight collars with clasped purlins.
