Description
No. 65, which includes the building adjoining on the south-west that was formerly the stables, is located on the west side of High Street in Milton Regis. This building, previously known as the Crown Inn, features an 18th-century front that likely covers a timber-framed structure. It stands two storeys tall, constructed with grey headers and red brick detailing including window dressings, quoins, a stringcourse, and vertical strips. The roof is tiled, with a parapet and a wooden modillion eaves cornice. The façade has five sash windows, although the glazing bars are missing. The entrance features a doorcase with a moulded architrave surround and a pediment supported by brackets, leading to a door made of six fielded panels, with the top two panels cut away and glazed. To the right, there is a modern shop front.
Adjoining on the south-west is a two-storey building that was formerly the stables of the inn. This structure is a notable timber-framed building with red brick infilling on the first floor that oversails at the protruding ends of the floor joists. The ground floor is made of red brick and features six pilasters. On the first floor, there are three original unglazed windows with wooden mullions, along with one 18th-century bay window with intact glazing bars at the north-east end. Beneath this is a carriage archway supported by curved braces and double doors. At the other end of the building, there is a small modern shop window.
No. 65 and the adjoining building, along with Nos. 67 to 71 (odd), 71A, 73, 73A, 75 to 87 (odd), 87A, 89 to 95 (odd), 95A, 97, 97A, 99, and 99A, form a group.
