Description
The stables located 40 metres east of Brenley Farmhouse date back to the early 17th century. They are constructed of red brick in English bond and feature a plain tiled roof. The building stands two storeys high on a raised plinth and has a moulded and enriched plat band. The gables have kneelers and parapets. There are four wooden casement windows positioned high under the eaves, along with four mullioned and transomed windows on the ground floor. To the left, there is a boarded door set in a chamfered four-centred arched surround, and in the centre, there are half-doors within a chamfered four-centred stone surround. The left side of the building has pilaster strips. These stables were originally associated with Brenley House, which was built in 1573 and later rebuilt by Sir John Routh, who died in 1657.
