Description
Colkins is a house dated 1729, with extensions from the early 19th century and 20th century. It was built for Richard Stacey, Master Builder of the King's Yard at Deptford. The house is constructed of red brick with grey headers on the left return and features a plain tiled roof. It stands three storeys high with a basement on a plinth, projecting eaves, and a hipped roof that has stacks at the rear left and right.
The front has a regular arrangement of windows, with three glazing bar sashes on the first and second floors and two on the ground floor, all having segmental heads. The central door consists of six raised and fielded panels topped by a traceried rectangular fanlight, framed by a pilaster surround and a flat hood supported by consoles. There are basement openings to the left and right.
To the right, there is a recessed two-storey hipped wing with segmental-headed windows and stacks at the end, along with a single-storey flat-roofed extension from the 20th century. The left return is made of grey headers with red brick dressings, featuring three storeys with five window bays, some of which are blank or contain glazing bar sashes, and a stone clock face set centrally above the top storey.
Inside, there is a cellar stair with turned balusters, and the main staircase has a dog leg with one flight on the ground floor and two flights at the front and rear of the house on the first and second floors. The staircase features turned balusters and ramped handrails on open strings with brackets, along with ramped dado panelling and some wainscotting. A re-set date plaque on the rear wall reads: Rd. Stacey Sr. Wm. Stacey Ir. o B't/Ann. 1729.
