Description
The Vicarage is a house that underwent early 18th century remodelling of a timber framed building and was extended in the early 19th century. It was built between 1716 and 1718 for Reverend William Plees. The structure features timber framed wings that are clad with red brick, while the main range is made of structural red brick. It has a plain tiled roof and consists of two storeys and an attic, with projecting wings on a plinth and a modillion eaves cornice that is raised in the centre to form a hipped roof, with the ridge also raised at the centre. The house has a hipped dormer and stacks to the right, with a projecting and offset stack at the left end. There are five glazing bar sash windows on the first floor, with the three central bays having taller windows. The ground floor features five segmental headed glazing bar sashes, with the central three having moulded cornices. Access is via a panelled door located in the left return. Inside, there is an early 18th century staircase with a moulded handrail and turned balusters, featuring a dogleg and winder.
