Description
The Court House is a timber-framed building dating from around 1450, located on the east side of High Street in Milton Regis. This structure served as the Medieval Court Hall of Milton and housed two prison cells beneath it. It was also utilized as a school when court sessions were not in session. The building has been restored and is currently functioning as a museum.
It features two storeys with timber framing and plaster infill. The first floor is close-studded and includes diagonal braces, while the roof is steeply pitched and tiled. The street-facing elevation has three casement windows with diamond panes, and there is one original double lancet window on the right side elevation, which was salvaged from a demolished house in Mill Street. The rear elevation has an overhang supported by curved braces. Additionally, there are four restored casement windows on the first floor and two restored wooden mullioned windows on the ground floor. The Court House is part of a group that includes Nos 52 to 76 (even), 80 to 104 (even), 104A, and 110.
