Description
The Phoenix Public House, located on Abbey Street, is a pair of timber-framed buildings dating from the 14th century. They were refronted in the 18th century but still feature an overhang of their first floor supported by a bressummer. Number 99 includes the central part of a medieval hall and both buildings have two storeys and an attic, each with two windows and two nipped dormers. Number 98 is finished with painted mathematical tiles, while Number 99 is stuccoed. The buildings have casement windows, with Number 98 featuring two small bays on the ground floor and a doorway surrounded by a moulded architrave. Numbers 82 to 92, 94, 95, and 98 and 99 form a group.
