Description

These are two 16th-century timber-framed houses on Abbey Street, refronted in the 18th century. They retain the characteristic overhang of the first floor, supported by a bressummer. Number 94 is two storeys with an attic, and has two windows, plus a hipped dormer. Number 95 is similarly arranged, with two hipped dormers. Number 94 is clad in painted mathematical tiles, while Number 95 has been stuccoed and features a parapet. Both have tiled roofs. Number 95 retains sash windows with original glazing bars, and original window openings and panels of timber framing on the ground floor. Number 94 suffered bomb damage and has since been renovated, incorporating two small canted bay windows on the ground floor. A two-storey, single-bay extension has been built onto the south side of Number 95. The first floor of this extension is weather-boarded, and the ground floor is brick. Numbers 82 to 92 (consecutive), 94 and 95, and 98 and 99 form a group.
