Description
19 Abbey Street is a 15th century timber-framed house that was refronted in the early 17th and 18th centuries. It retains the overhang of its first and second floors on a bressummer, with carved animal brackets supporting the first floor. The building has three storeys, two windows, and three dormers, and is finished with painted mathematical tiles. It features an eaves cornice and a steeply pitched hipped tiled roof, with two small bays on the ground and first floors. The glazing bars are intact, and the doorway is framed by a fluted architrave surrounding a door with six moulded panels, where the top two panels are cut away and glazed. Early 17th century work has been uncovered at the south end on the first floor, consisting of plastered panels painted to resemble glass. This property is part of a group with Nos 14 to 32 Abbey Street.
