Description
The buildings at 15, 16, 17, and 18 Abbey Street comprise a group of houses with a complex history. Numbers 15 and 16 have 18th-century facades built onto a late medieval timber-framed core. Each of these buildings is three storeys high, with No. 15 having a pointed gable and No. 16 a half-hipped roof. They each have one window bay. No. 15 is faced with yellow brick, and No. 16 with red brick and mathematical tiling. The windows retain their original glazing bars, and the doorways have six-panelled doors within moulded frames.
Numbers 17 and 18 also have 18th-century facades, but are two storeys high and have one window bay each. Number 18 is rendered and painted, while No. 17 is partly covered in pebble-dash. Each building features a small bay window on the ground floor. The windows generally retain their original glazing bars, although the first-floor window of No. 18 is a casement window. The doorways are surrounded by moulded surrounds with projecting cornices, and have six-panel doors.
Numbers 14 to 32 Abbey Street form a group.
