Description
The Lodge and entrance gateway to Brasted Place date from the late 18th or early 19th century. The lodge is a two-storey stucco building with one window facing the road. It has a moderately pitched, slated roof with a stuccoed ridge stack and moulded eaves cornice. The first floor features a three-light sash window with glazing bars, set within a projecting bow that also has a continuous entablature and blocking course. A small round window and a porch with a pedimented gable are on the west return. The main entrance is a six-panel door. Modern extensions have been added to the rear.
A late 19th-century red brick abutment of a gate pier, with a niche containing a finely gauged round head, stands between the window and the porch. This abutment is connected to the White Hart Hotel by stone piers, banded in red brick, which also support dilapidated wrought iron double and single gates. The piers have stone plinths and entablatures, consistent with the abutment.
