Description
Boar Place is a manor house built around 1745, which incorporates an older timber-framed building. It is mentioned in Hasted's History of Kent. The main structure is T-shaped, featuring a front elevation made of brick with a plinth and band. The center projects slightly and is topped with a brick pediment. The roof has a half hip ridge with brick corbelled eaves. The house has two storeys and half basement lights, presenting a symmetrical facade with a central panelled door that has a fanlight above it. This door is framed by a projecting open pediment supported by rounded columns and returned half pilasters, with a continued entablature on either side supported by pilasters, and two small windows flanking the door. The open pediment has a panelled soffit. There are five sets of diamond-paved casements symmetrically arranged, and the ground floor windows are set under flat segmental arches made of brick headers. To the right side, there is a lean-to addition featuring a semi-circular window with glazing bars. The older rear wing, which forms the leg of the T, is tile-hung above and brick below, containing some 18th-century sash windows with glazing bars and some iron casements. There is an old brick chimney dating from the 17th century. Modern but appropriate additions have been made to the left of the main front and to the back of the old wing, creating a rough H-shape.
