Description

The barn at Walnut Tree Cross Farm is a late 16th-century threshing barn that underwent alterations in the early 19th century. It features a timber frame with three bays, and the exterior is weatherboarded sitting on a brick plinth. The roof is newly tiled, and there are large double doors at the entrance. Inside, the barn has a midrail and retains most of its curved tension braces, with 11 still intact and 5 missing. It has jowled posts and curved braces, and one section of the wall plate lacks a midrail and has replaced upright posts. The threshing floor has been built up on either side with a brick base. The barn was reroofed above the tie beam level with through purlins, and some rafters are rough hewn, featuring queen posts.
