Description

Elylands is a 16th-century timber-framed hall house located on Stick Hill in Cowden. Originally named Elyands and situated on Harfield Road, the building retains elements of its original structure. The house is two storeys and an attic, with three windows. It features a high-pitched tiled roof with a hipped section on the left side and a compound ridge stack, the upper part of which has been rebuilt. The first floor is tile hung and jetties to the left, supported by old joists. The ground floor is brick. On the left return, sections of square framing with brick infill are visible, and this detail is also present at the rear. The windows are small iron casements with leaded diamond panes. A plank door is situated at the back, sheltered by a bracketed hood. Modern additions include a canted bay on the right return and set-back extensions on the left. Internally, much stout exposed timber remains, including a crown post roof and evidence of smoke blackening.
