Description

The King's Head Public House is a composite building located at the corner of Bessels Green Road, facing the green. It has origins in the 18th century, with early 19th-century additions. The original 18th-century section is constructed of painted brick, featuring a continuous painted base and stucco on the first floor. It has projecting boarded eaves and a gutter, with a ridge tile roof and end stacks. The building is two storeys high and includes two hip-tiled dormers.

On the ground floor, there is a 19th-century glazed and panelled door in the centre, with an octagonal projecting bay to the right that has a flat roof and contains sash windows with bars. To the left, there is one casement window. The first floor features two casement windows and a painted panel with the inn sign in the centre. Above, there are two dormers with lattice casements.

To the right is an early 19th-century addition that is also two storeys tall, made of painted brick with projecting boarded eaves and a gutter. It has a ridge Welsh slate roof. The ground floor includes a large tripartite sash window with bars, set under a flat segmental arch. The first floor mirrors this with a large similar tripartite window. To the extreme left, there is a one-storey wing with a ridge pantile roof.

The King's Head Public House, along with its dormers and garden wall, forms a group with Heath Cottage and Bessels Cottage.
