Description

The Chatham Vase is located on the east side of the lake near its south end in Chevening. This stone urn on a pedestal was created in 1780 by John Bacon. It was erected by Hester, Lady Chatham, in 1871 in memory of her husband. Inscriptions on the vase detail its travels from Burton Pynsent to Stowe in 1831, then to Revesby in 1857, and finally to Chevening in 1934.
