Description
Granite Column in the rear garden of Number 5 Pontoise Close is a tall Doric column made of red Cornish granite, likely from the late 19th century. This column is now situated in the rear garden of No 5 but originally stood in the grounds of the now-demolished Bradbourne Hall. It was the centerpiece of a Druidical circle, of which some remnants, such as monoliths, can still be found in the gardens of Nos 6 and 8. The column is believed to have been commissioned by Francis Crawshay (1811-1878), a member of the prominent Crawshay family known for their ironworks in South Wales. Francis Crawshay was involved with the Order of Druids of Wales and is thought to have constructed a Druidical Circle in Pontypridd while managing the family tinplate works at nearby Treforest.
